Roger Zelazny
|
Roger Zelazny wrote with great artistry, almost like a poet. Themes from Greek and other mythologies intertwine with high technology. Unlike many SF writers his books employ literary devices common in other genres i.e. the flashback in "Lord of Light" totally foxed me the first time I read it. I met Roger Zelazny once at a SF convention - botched the encounter. |

A Dark Travelling published in 1987 is juvenile fiction but often juvenile fiction seems richer than adult fiction. A tale set among parallel earths, at different stages of development. Some have high technology. Some have high magic. Using technology (or magic) you can move between these parallel realities. The tale is told by fourteen year-old James whose scientist father disappears as part of the struggle between the light and dark bands. Witchy sisters and werewolf uncles and golems help and hinder his search through the worlds of possibility.
