Stephen Hunt
|
Stephen Hunt is an American born SF writer living in London. Judging from the Jackelian series (Court of the Air etc) he writes what could be labelled as steampunk, Victorian technology mixed with fey magic. But labels are not enough to describe the impact of reading Hunt. Hunt's books are a wild gallop of ideas, falling over each other. He mixes people and events from myriad sources into something of his very own. Every chapter one discovers something new, something from out of left field. High octane reading, a literary rollercoaster ride. For me Hunt is best read occasionally, rather than regularly. |

The Kingdom Beyond The Waves published in 2008 is the second book set in the Jackelian world that appeared in "Court of the Air". The plot has Professor Amelia Harsh on a quest for lost Camlantis, a quest that takes her into the heart of darkness in the jungles of savage Liongeli. Rip-roaring adventure that never stops. Interweaving storylines that madly chase each other, and to some extent get resolved at the end. Ideas and concepts like that of Atlantis revived, renamed, recycled. Cliff hangers everywhere. Hunt's writing is electrifying. Worth checking out.
